The world has reached a critical mass of insanity
Tares of hatred sewn into good wheat
A tainted harvest of compassion and cruelty
Mercy and meanness
Intertwined and standing upright
Side by side, rooted in the soil of humanity

From the bounty gleaned from hate-filled crops
Devastation and grief are the meat of the feast
Mourning doves fly overhead, singing soulful songs
On whose shoulders does this sadness belong?

The hate is unbearable
The weight is not shareable
How many times does the phoenix have to rise from the ashes of grief?
Accountability must be an outcome, no matter how brief

Love, hope, and things that we trust
Are not lost on loved ones, allies, and things that are just
How long Lord, will we have to endure?
While keeping our faith and hearts continually secure
